Hard to believe with talk of snow on the way later this week, but the National Park Service announced the dates of the predicted peak bloom for the Cherry Blossoms today!
Each year, the National Park Service and DC host the National Cherry Blossom Festival, in celebration of the beautiful pink and white cherry blossom trees donated from Japan that circle the Tidal Basin on the National Mall. Annually hundreds of thousands of tourists and locals visit the Tidal Basin to take photos of the trees and also attend the festival’s many events.
It’s almost impossible to resist taking the time to visit the blossoms at the Tidal Basin and taking a selfie, because it’s almost impossible to take a bad photo during bloom season!
Here are the events and dates you should know:
March 31 through April 3: Predicted Peak Bloom (meaning 70% of the cherry blossom trees are in bloom)
March 26: Opening Ceremony for the Cherry Blossom Festival
April 2: Blossom Kite Festival on the National Mall
April 4: Cherry Blossom Festival Fireworks Display on the Southwest Waterfront
April 16: National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade
April 17: Anacostia River Festival

To get to the Tidal Basin, we recommend taking Metrorail or riding a Capital Bikeshare bicycle rental on a warm and sunny day. We hope to see you all there!
